Michigan tight end Tyrone Wheatley Jr. has left the program, according to a school spokesman. Wheatley Jr. is the son of former Michigan running back and former running backs coach, Tyrone Wheatley. The Michigan spokesman noted that Wheatley Jr. notified the Michigan coaches of his decision on Thursday and that the decision to leave was fully on Wheatley Jr.

The Patriots signed rookie FB Henry Poggi (Michigan) on Wednesday, filling the void when rookie FB/TE Shane Wimann was waived/injured earlier in the week. The 6-foot-4, 257-pound Poggi was originally signed by the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in May, and was released by Oakland in June. During his college career, he appeared in 44 games with 17 starts — four at tight end and 13 at fullback. Poggi will wear No. 48 with the Patriots, and joins Pro Bowler James Develin at the position.
