Report: Pitt OL arrested on DUI, other charges

Pitt lineman Alex Bookser was arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of DUI and other charges after he allegedly drove his SUV through a stop sign and ran into two parked cars on the Pitt campus.

The Steelers liked what they saw out of Pitt linebacker Matt Galambos during rookie minicamp. The team has added him to the 90-man roster, according to Tier 1 Sports Management. Galambos produced 155 tackles and 5 1/2 sacks as a Panther. The Steelers are also intrigued by Fordham tight end Phazahn Odom, whom the Houston Chronicle reports is signing with the team, though nothing has been made official.

With third-round running back James Conner signing Thursday, the Steelers have four of their eight draft picks signed. Rookie minicamp begins Friday, and the top-three picks - pass rusher T.J. Watt, wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster, cornerback Cam Sutton - remain unsigned.

Along with the Steelers, RB James Conner also anticipated the Philadelphia Eagles were interested in drafting him somewhere in the mid-rounds. The Eagles were shopping for running backs, with the Vikings considering them a threat to draft Dalvin Cook in the second round. Conner knew he might be a Day 3 pick, but the Eagles (who took cornerback Rasul Douglas No. 99 overall) and Steelers gave him hope he might land in the third. The Steelers drafted Conner with the 105th overall pick.

And with their last pick, at 234th overall, the Rams drafted Ejuan Price, an outside linebacker from Pittsburgh. 5-11, 241, so a little undersized, but has good burst. Can be a sub-package rusher.

Bills select QB Nathan Peterman with the No. 171 pick, ending the slide of top remaining player on the board (No. 69 overall by ESPN). Peterman is an intriguing addition to a Bills quarterback depth chart that also includes 2016 fourth-round pick Cardale Jones and veteran T.J. Yates. Peterman doesn't have nearly the arm strength of Jones but is considered a good intermediate passer.

Here are the Steelers' picks so far through the first three rounds of the draft: 1. T.J. Watt, OLB, Wisconsin; 2. JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, USC; 3. Cameron Sutton, CB, Tennessee; 4. James Conner, RB, Pitt.

Steelers make clear James Conner is not a sentimental pick. "The tape told me what he was," RBs coach James Saxon said. "He runs the football downhill, he can bend, he can catch the football, he's tough, he's smart, he's a guy who can come here and work every day."

Steelers pick hometown cancer survivor Conner

The Steelers drafted James Conner in the third round Friday after he spent six months undergoing treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma before playing his last college season.

Michael DiRocco ESPN Staff Writer

The Jaguars have four picks in the final four rounds of the NFL draft on Saturday. They have the third pick in the fourth round, the fourth pick in the fifth round, and two picks in the seventh round (fourth and 22nd). They traded their sixth-round pick to Seattle to move up one spot in the second round to select Alabama OT Cam Robinson. Players to watch in the fourth round include TE Jake Butt, CB Desmond King, and QB Nathan Peterman.

Steelers keep RB James Conner at home

Conner is staying in Pittsburgh, as the former Panthers running back who battled cancer, was chosen by the hometown Steelers in the third round.

Pitt running back James Conner to Steelers, 105th overall. Great story. Cancer survivor stays home. And Le'Veon Bell gets a bruiser to back him up.

With Cal QB Davis Webb off the board, the Steelers could use one of their two late-third-round picks on a quarterback before most of them are gone. They very well might eschew one entirely, but Tennessee's Josh Dobbs and Pitt's Nate Peterman are available. The team met with both players during the pre-draft process.
