New Texas AD gets 7-year deal starting at $1.3M

Chris Del Conte's annual salary at Texas will reach $1.57 million in the final year in 2024. The contract includes an additional $725,000 in other payments spread over the life of the deal.

Former Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield, who attended the OU-Texas basketball game Saturday, was asked about the Red River Showdown. He didn't mince words about the Longhorns: "You come to Oklahoma to beat Texas. I was born and raised in Austin. They didn't recruit me. I grew up 15 miles from their campus. I can't stand them. Anything they do, I don't care. I talked to the NFL guys and they said I need to calm it down a little bit. But when it comes to Texas, absolutely not. No. end of story."

Texas' class finishes the day at No. 3 overall. Last year, the Longhorns had the 33rd-ranked class. Since ESPN recruiting rankings began (2006), that's the second biggest jump from in a year, according to ESPN Stats and Information (Michigan went from 40 to 6 in 2015-2016).

In 2017, only 19 of the top 50 prospects in Texas and only five of the top 20 prospects stayed in state. This year 31 of the top 50 stayed in state. Texas (16) and Texas A&M (7) combined for 23 signees in the state's top 50 this year after combining for just 10 of the top 50 last year.

Key receiver Hemphill-Mapps leaving Texas

Coach Tom Herman confirmed Wednesday that Reggie Hemphill-Mapps, who emerged as a key receiver for the Longhorns in 2017, will transfer from Texas.

ESPN 300 wide receiver Tommy Bush commits to Georgia. Dawgs now have 19 ESPN 300 commitments in this class.

Texas has commitments from 15 in-state ESPN 300 players this year, the most in-state ESPN 300 players that a school has ever landed (Georgia had 14 in 2017 and LSU had 14 in 2016).

ESPN 300 defensive end Joseph Ossai (Conroe, TX/Oak Ridge HS) announces he has committed to Texas. Ossai is the 15th ranked defensive end in the country. That gives the Longhorns 19 ESPN 300 prospects in their 2018 class.

Texas adds to top 3 class with No. 45 prospect

Joshua Moore, the No. 45 ranked prospect in the class of 2018, committed to play for the Texas Longhorns over Oregon Sunday. Moore made official visits to Nebraska and Alabama before the trip to check out the Longhorns.

ESPN 300 athlete Joshua Moore committed to Texas over Oregon on Sunday. Moore, the No. 45 ranked prospect, gives Texas 18 ESPN 300 commitments in the 2018 class and five commitments from the state of Texas ranked in the top-50 of the ESPN 300.
