First-ever Falcons player Nobis dies at 74

Tommy Nobis, the first player ever drafted by Atlanta in 1966 and a hard-hitting linebacker who went on to spend his entire 11-year career with the Falcons, died Wednesday after an extended illness. He was 74.

New Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte on rekindling the Longhorns' rivalry with Texas A&M: "I think we'll look at that. I don't have any comment on that today. I don't know….Rivalries in college athletics are so important....I think we'll look at that down the road."

New Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte, at his introduction on Monday, said he got a phone call from TCU coach Gary Patterson, who he worked with the last eight years. Del Conte joked Patterson told him "I love you, but I hate you today." Del Conte said "I love it."

Texas junior defensive back DeShon Elliott will forgo his senior season and declare for the NFL draft. He will also skip the Longhorns' bowl game, joining offensive tackle Connor Williams who made the same decision earlier this week.

RB Warren leaving Texas' crowded backfield

Texas running back Chris Warren III, who was the Longhorns' primary back early this season but later moved to tight end, is planning to transfer.

Some key personnel news for Texas today as All-America tackle Connor Williams, injured for most of the season, declared for the NFL draft and will not play in a bowl game. Longhorns running back Chris Warren III announced he will transfer. Warren led Texas running backs in carries (71) and had 314 yards and six touchdowns.
