Texas ends 4-year skid against No. 17 TCU 31-16

Sam Ehlinger passed for two touchdowns and ran for a score, all in the second half, and Texas ended a four-game losing streak to No. 17 TCU with a 31-16 victory Saturday in the Big 12 opener for both teams.

Things looking up in Austin? Texas' 31-16 win over TCU is the Longhorns' third straight and it breaks a four game losing streak to the Horned Frogs. The Texas defense has been stellar each of the last two weeks. TCU, meanwhile, needs to regroup after losing its second straight. The Horned Frogs will have to iron out some offensive issues, namely with running backs as Darius Anderson and Sewo Olonilua combined for just 70 yards on 20 attempts.

After going 0-for-6 on third-down conversions in the first half, Texas has flipped the script in the second half, going 5-for-8 on third downs. The result is a productive offense that has given the Longhorns a 31-16 lead over TCU late in the fourth that all but assures a winning start to Big 12 play for Texas.

Things shifted in Texas' favor pretty quickly late in the third quarter. Sam Ehlinger's 31-yard touchdown pass to Collin Johnson gave the Longhorns a lead, then Caden Sterns helps extend it by intercepting TCU QB Shawn Robinson and returning it to the 2. One play later, Ehlinger runs it in and Texas leads by eight.

Texas kicker Cameron Dicker is 1-for-3 on field goal attempts today, missing attempts from 42 and 43 yards away while his TCU counterpart, Jonathan Song, is 3-for-3. TCU holding on to a six-point third-quarter lead over the Longhorns.

Late first-half TD puts TCU back on top (0:32)

Texas is 0-for-6 on third down conversion attempts today. That's inefficiency is a reason why the Longhorns have generated just 10 points, trailing TCU by three at halftime.

Texas leads TCU by a point after a quarter of play and that's notable for this reason: during the Longhorns' current four-game losing streak to TCU, the Longhorns haven't led in any of those. The last time Texas led TCU was its last win over the Horned Frogs: Oct. 26, 2013

TCU shuffled the offensive line a few times last week vs. Ohio State and it looks like the Horned Frogs are going with the combination they ended that game with today vs. Texas, with Austin Myers at left tackle and Chris Gaynor at right guard.
