Colorado and Northwestern announced they will play a home-and-home series next decade. The series will begin in Evanston on Sept. 19, 2026, and return to Boulder on Sept. 11, the following year. “This will be a great series for several reasons,” Colorado athletic director Rick George said in a statement. “Not only is it a quality match-up between two great academic and Pac-12 and Big Ten institutions, it's important for us to get to that part of the country and the Chicago area for our alumni we have there.”

Northwestern and Colorado announce a home-and-home series for 2026 and 2027. The teams will play in Evanston in 2027 and in Boulder the following year. The Wildcats and Buffaloes last met in 1978.

If there's one thing that Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre is concerned about right now, it's the difference between the Buffaloes' schedule and their Week 1 opponent, Colorado State. CSU opens its season against Oregon State on Aug. 26, while Colorado doesn't play before its game in Denver against the Rams on Sept. 1. "I wish I would have known that a long time ago we would have played a Week 0 game because I think that gives them a big advantage," MacIntyre said. "At least at the beginning of the game for sure." As a result, he said, they'll scrimmage more than in past to prepare.

One of the more intriguing players in Colorado's recent signing class, Sebastian Olver, has decided to leave the team after spending about 24 hours in Boulder and return to his home in Australia. Olver figured to play either tight end or defensive line. CU coach Mike MacIntyre said the program will file a waiver in hopes that Olver's scholarship will not count against the team's limit. "One of these guys out here deserves to get that scholarship," MacIntyre said. "It's very disappointing."

CU regents approve MacIntyre's extension

Colorado football coach Mike MacIntyre's $16.25 million extension, previously held up by a school investigation, has now been approved by the university's board of regents.

More from Peter Ginsberg, attorney for accuser in Joe Tumpkin case: "For the athletic director and the head coach essentially to promote Tumpkin for a bowl game when they knew they had on their staff an abuser speaks for itself. The idea that they didn't know what to do either reflects extremely poorly on their own ethics or is a disappointing rationalization. ... My client feels betrayed and devastated."

CU suspends chancellor, reprimands coach, AD

The mishandling of allegations of domestic abuse against former Colorado assistant football coach Joe Tumpkin has resulted in a 10-day suspension without pay for school chancellor Phil DiStefano and reprimands for coach Mike MacIntyre and AD Rick George.

Adam Rittenberg ESPN Staff Writer

Peter Ginsberg, attorney for Joe Tumpkin's ex-girlfriend, tells ESPN: "We are deeply disappointed in how cavalierly the university viewed the appropriate discipline. The university ... chose to allow the athletic director and the head coach to essentially go unpunished. It's an unfortunate reflection on the university's priorities."

The University of Colorado Board of Regents will meet on Monday to discuss the school's handling of allegations of domestic violence against former assistant football coach Joe Tumpkin. The school is expected to release findings from an outside investigation into how school officials responded after they were made aware of the allegations. If university president Bruce Benson decides discipline for any school officials is appropriate, it is expected that those determinations would also be announced on Monday.
