Raiders second-rounder Obi Melifonwu said he was not expecting the Raiders to call him since he had only met with them at the combine. "The fact that you guys got Marshawn Lynch," Melifonwu said on a conference call with reporters, "that was the icing on the cake." He said he models his game after that of Kam Chancellor.

Here are the Raiders picks so far through the first three rounds of the draft: 1. Gareon Conley, CB, Ohio State; 2. Obi Melifonwu, S, Connecticut; 3. Eddie Vanderdoes, DT, UCLA.

Paul Gutierrez ESPN Staff Writer

The Raiders have selected UCLA DT Eddie Vanderdoes with the No. 88 overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft. The 6-foot-3, 305-pounder missed nearly the entire 2015 season with a torn ACL but started 12 games for the Bruins last fall, finishing with 28 stops, 1.5 behind the line of scrimmage.

The New York Giants have selected QB Davis Webb. The Raiders are on the clock now for the No. 88 overall selection. They still have needs on the defensive line and at inside linebacker.

Safety Obi Melifonwu has the range and movement skills to play the deep half or drop to the deep middle of the field. He looked smooth at Senior Bowl workouts. Melifonwu is not a true striker on contact, but his size and athletic ability is super rare. 6-foot-4, 224 pounds with 4.40 speed. Lot of upside here with the Raiders draft pick.

The Raiders have selected UConn safety Obi Melifonwu with the No. 56 selection of the NFL draft.

Meet Obi Melifonwu, the NFL draft's biggest workout freak

He had just one scholarship offer out of high school, but five years later, every NFL team is well-aware of Connecticut safety Obi Melifonwu after his off-the-charts workouts at the combine.

Source tells me UConn safety Obi Melifonwu had a private meeting today with Bucs defensive backs coach Brett Maxie. He had a really solid pro day Wednesday. Showed great movement, fluidity, footwork and was explosive when he accelerated. Scouts really like his length too. He posted a 44-inch vertical at the combine (one inch off the combine all-time record) and his 6-foot-4 frame gives him the ability to match up against bigger receivers and tight ends.

UConn safety Obi Melifonwu (6-foot-4, 224 pounds) is lighting up the Combine testing. 4.46 40 (u). 44" vertical jump. 11'9" broad jump. Rare combination of size and athleticism in the secondary. He had a really good week at the Senior Bowl. Much more fluid than I expected playing the deep middle of the field and rolling to the deep half (Cover 2). Draft stock is on the rise.

Senior Bowl: After watching practice, these four defensive players improved their draft stock this week in Mobile -- LB Haason Reddick (Temple), DB Cam Sutton (Tennessee), DT Jaleel Johnson (Iowa) and S Obi Melifonwu (UConn).

Senior Bowl: Safety to watch today in full pads -- Obi Melifonwu (UConn). 6-foot-4, 219 pounds. Has the frame of a nickel linebacker. Movement skills. Can track the ball too. Rare athleticism given his size at the position. Opportunity today to impress pro scouts during inside run period and team drills. Get downhill and hit.
