Aser Dipanda Dicka's brace helped Shillong Lajong beat Chennai City FC 2-0 in the sixth round of the I-League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Tuesday.
Dicka is now the league's joint-top scorer, having taken his tally to five for the season. It was Shillong's third win on the trot, a feat that they last achieved in the second half of the 2011-12 season. It was also their first clean sheet of the season and they are now tied on nine points with Bengaluru FC, who have a game in hand. Coach Thangboi Singto opted for the same starting XI from the last two games. Midfielder Isaac Vanmalsawma, who had provided the assist for Dicka's goal against Mumbai in the last game, once again provided the cross which Dicka headed in for the opener in the 20th minute. Lajong could have doubled their lead in the first half when Chennai City's Haroon Amiri handled the ball inside the box, resulting in a penalty. However, Samuel Lalmuanpuia's effort from the spot went over.
Lajong's second came in the second half, when Chennai failed to clear a set-piece and Dicka smashed it in from close range.
Lajong remain fifth in the league table and next host Churchill Brothers on February 5.
