The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has reinstated Goa's Churchill Brothers Sports Club to the I-League. Churchill were dropped from the league in 2014 alongwith Mohammedan Sporting and Rangdajied United for failing to fulfil the club licensing criteria.

Churchill, who won the I-League in 2008-09 and 2012-13, will be the only Goan club in the league next season following the decision of Salgaocar FC, Sporting Clube de Goa and Dempo Sports Club to pull out in protest of the proposed merger of the I-League and the Indian Super League.

Responding to a petition filed by Churchill, the Delhi High Court had directed AIFF to reconsider the club's plea to be reinstated. Following a meeting of the AIFF's emergency committee on November 28, the federation then decided to allow Churchill to participate in the 2016-17 league provided they commit to fulfilling the licensing criteria.
