BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- Chris Clemons scored 33 points with six rebounds and four assists and Campbell edged Gardner-Webb 78-70 on Wednesday night, snapping a three-game slide.
Clemons was 10 of 20 from the field -- including 6 of 13 from deep -- and 7 of 10 from the line. Shane Whitfield and Jordan Whitfield added 12 points apiece for the Fighting Camels (13-12, 7-6 Big South) and Marcus Burk 11.
Campbell was down by one at intermission but came back early in the second half with Shane Whitfield's jumper putting the Fighting Camels up 45-42. Jordan Whitfield followed with three 3-pointers midway to extend it to 57-49 with 10:29 left.
Gardner-Webb took a 66-65 lead with three minutes remaining but Shane Whitfield replied with a layup. Andrew Eudy had a dunk and Clemons a dunk and a 3-pointer back-to-back to put Campbell up 74-66 with 53 seconds to go.
DJ Laster led the Bulldogs (12-14, 7-6), scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
