Jeremiah Martin scored 26 points and Kareem Brewton Jr., hit a game-winning 3-pointer off a broken play and Memphis defeated Temple 75-72 in overtime Saturday, winning its first game on the road this season.

Josh Brown scores winner as Temple stuns SMU in Dallas 66-64

BIGGEST LOSER (28Dec): St. Johns's and Temple both fell below the cut line with inexplicable home losses. In Temple's case, the opponent (Tulane) was a head-scratcher; for St. John's, the margin of defeat against Providence was unexpected. None of that will matter if Shamorie Ponds' knee injury is serious.

BIGGEST WINNER (28Dec): Houston moved into the bracket for the first time by cruising past South Florida in Tampa. Cougars will need to beat Temple on Saturday to hold their spot in next Thursday's update.

Frazier scores 25, Tulane beats Temple 85-75

Melvin Frazier scored 25 points with seven assists, Cameron Reynolds added 17 points with 10 rebounds, and Tulane pulled ahead early and held on to beat Temple 85-75 in an American Conference opener on Thursday night.

Brunson, Spellman shine for Nova (1:00)

Brunson leads No. 1 Villanova in rout of Temple

Jalen Brunson had 22 of his career-high 31 points in No. 1 Villanova's dominating first half and Omari Spellman scored 27 to help lead the Wildcats to an 87-67 rout of Temple on Wednesday night.

Duke haters beware. Almost no way the Blue Devils fall off the top line even with loss at B.C. Villanova likely No. 1 overall in next bracket if it finishes off Philly sweep of La Salle and Temple.

As an assistant, David Padgett turned Anas Mahmoud into a versatile big man with a motor. That's his protégé. And that's whom he should tag as the motivational leader this program needs. Proved he deserved the role in that second-half comeback.

That's a good win for Temple and Fran Dunphy, who could make some noise in the American race this season. Shizz Alston Jr. and Co. outplayed a Badgers team that missed an opportunity to steal a solid road win, a win the Badgers needed.

Can't overstate the significance of this game for Wisconsin (No. 6 in strength of schedule, per BPI), which has a resume that's featured impressive challenges but no impressive wins. A road win at a top-50ish Temple would help. If the Badgers lose, they'll be searching for every meaningful win in a lukewarm Big Ten. No real test until their road game at Purdue on Jan. 16.

I disagree with the Flagrant 1 that was called on Brevin Pritzl for an inadvertent elbow against Josh Brown in this Temple-Wisconsin game. Yes, he hit him with an elbow but no malice. Just a guy trying to get around a defender. Pivotal call. Not sure this crew got it right.

Hot-shooting George Washington upends Temple 70-67

Yuta Watanabe and Jair Bolden scored 17 points each, fellow starters Patrick Steeves and Arnaldo Toro combined for 20 more and George Washington fended off a late-charging Temple in a 70-67 upset Sunday.
