Carmelo Anthony Traded

Tony Kornheiser and Frank Isola weigh in on the Carmelo Anthony trade and if he will ultimately end up in LA or Houston, if loyalty should matter in pro sports, Boogie Cousins explanation and much more.

Atlanta will be right at the salary cap after acquiring Carmelo Anthony and Justin Anderson. To fit the Anthony and Anderson salary, Atlanta will likely need to waive the $1.4M Antonius Cleveland non-guaranteed contract. For next season, Atlanta projects to have $57M in cap space and the potential to have three first round picks. Besides their own, Atlanta has a top 10 protected pick from Cleveland and a top 5 protected first from Dallas.

Sources: Melo headed to Hawks, will be waived

OKC will deal Carmelo Anthony to the Hawks for a package that includes Dennis Schroder. Anthony will be waived, and the Rockets are front-runners for him.

Bobby Marks ESPN

Atlanta is now up to $9M in room after the Jaylen Morris waiver. The guard had a $1.4M non-guaranteed contract. The Hawks and Sacramento ($20.5M) are the lone teams that have significant cap space.

Taking in the $12.5M expiring contract of Jeremy Lin now has the Hawks with $8.9M in room and 13 guaranteed contracts. Lin has a 10% trade bonus valued at $1.25M that Brooklyn would be responsible for if the guard does not waive it. The cap hit would increase to $13.7 million and room for Atlanta would decrease to $7.7 million. Lin has $2.25M in unlikely bonuses in his contract that range from statistical achievements to All-NBA honors. The Hawks have two players on non-guaranteed contracts, Jaylen Morris ($1.4M) and Antonius Cleveland ($1.4M).
