Jokic, Nuggets hold off Spurs 90-86 in Game 7 to advance

Down four, San Antonio inexplicably failed to foul. LaMarcus Aldridge failed to foul Nikola Jokic. It appeared Aldridge couldn't hear anyone telling him to foul. Denver milked the clock, got up a shot and by the time the Spurs got the rebound with a few seconds left, the game was over. The Denver homecourt advantage came through.

Denver opens the fourth missing 11-of-15 shots and the Spurs are right back in this game. San Antonio has crawled all the way back within 88-86 with 52.2 seconds remaining with some stellar defense. Time for the Nuggets to grow up.

The Spurs shot 22.2% in the first half, the worst by any team in the first half of a playoff game over the last 15 seasons. And the Spurs and Nuggets combining to shoot 2-for-22 (9.1%) on 3-point attempts in the first half is the worst combined 3-point field goal percentage by two teams in any half of a playoff game in the last 20 postseasons according to ESPN Stats and Info.

The Nuggets led by as much as 67-50 in the third quarter but have not been able to blow this game open. San Antonio closed the quarter with an 11-5 run to keep the game the deficit at 11 entering the fourth. Rudy Gay has helped keep the Spurs within striking distance with 19 points and six rebounds. The Nuggets are shooting 2-for-17 from behind the 3-point arc. A few more of those fall and this game is over.

Derrick White has started Game 7 shooting 0-for-7. In the 10 and a half quarters since scoring a career-high 36 points and getting layup after layup in Game 3, White has scored a total of 37 points. White has struggled ever since the Nuggets put Gary Harris on him and started Torrey Craig.

With 8:45 remaining in the third quarter, the San Antonio Spurs reached 40 points on two free throws by Bryn Forbes. That let's you know just how much of a struggle it has been offensively for the Spurs.

The Spurs' starters played one of the worst playoff first quarters in decades. According to ESPN Stats and Info, the San Antonio starters combined to score two points (LaMarcus Aldridge) in the first quarter. That's the fewest combined points by a starting five in the first quarter of a playoff game in the last 20 postseasons.

Nikola Jokic had his way with the Spurs' defense, including LaMarcus Aldridge. Jokic made 7-of-14 shots and had 15 points and nine rebounds in the firsthalf but has just two assists so far. Jamal Murry has missed five-of-six shots but has been attacking and went to the line six times in the first half. Gary Harris has been quiet with two points and has taken only two shots. The Nuggets attempted 45 shots in the first half with Jokic and Paul Millsap accounting for 24 of those shots.

The Nuggets end the first half with a Mason Plumlee rebound putback dunk and the Pepsi Center exploded. It was so loud in here that the arena started playing the beginning of Bell Biv Devoe's "Poison" and you couldn't hear the music at all. Denver goes into the half up 47-34 but that lead should've been so much bigger. San Antonio missed 35-of-45 shots, including 9-of-10 3-point attempts. And despite all that, the Spurs were still within seven until Denver scored the final six points of the half.

The Nuggets bench has come to play after having a rough game in Game 6. Mason Plumlee has been active with three points, two rebounds and one no-look bounce pass to Monte Morris for a layup in his first three minutes in the game. Malik Beasley also has three rebounds as the Nuggets' reserves are attacking the glass.
