Indian shooter Mairaj Ahmad Khan finished in 10th position at the end of the first day of qualifying in the men's skeet event.
Posting a score of 72 in 75 shots, the 40-year old Indian started with 24 in the first series before firing a brilliant 25 in the second and finishing with 23 points in the day's final series.
Sweden's Marcus Svensson currently leads the standings with 75 points. A top-six finish, as of now, looks attainable for the Indian.
The skeet qualifying round is staged over two days with three rounds of 25 shots each on the first day and the remaining two rounds of a total of 50 shots on the second.
Gurpreet Singh finishes 10th
In the 25m rapid fire pistol event qualifying round, India's Gurpreet Singh finished in 10th position with a total of 289, which included 10 perfect 10s. This event is also competed over two stages.
Beginning with a perfect score of 100 in the first series, he followed it up with 99 in the second before logging in a not-so great 90 in the final series of the day.
In the qualifying round, six series of ten shots each are fired, divided into three series on each day. The top six shooters at the end of the second qualifying stage on Saturday will make the final.
Earlier, Gurpreet had finished 20th in the 10m air pistol qualifying round.
