Former Australian Test hooker and new Leicester Tigers signing Tatafu Polota-Nau admitted the Aviva Premiership intensity was similar to an international clash with England.

The 82-time capped Wallaby played his first game for the Tigers in their New Year's Eve defeat at the hands of Exeter Chiefs and having faced England nine times -- five of which he was on the losing side -- in his international career, he acknowledged the physicality of the game.

"It was similar out there in physicality and intensity to a Test match against England for Australia," Polota-Nau told the Tigers website.

The loss to the Chiefs saw them slump to their sixth consecutive defeat across the Champions Cup and Aviva Premiership action as they fell to fourth from bottom in the table. Despite currently sitting outside the Champions Cup qualification places, Polota-Nau feels they can turn it around.

"Personally, for me, I am all about getting a result for the team. There's times where I haven't had much idea about where to be on the field but, the guys have been so great in getting me to understand the terminology of the group and how we do things.

"In saying all of that, it's now my turn to give back to the group in making sure that I can contribute in defence and ball carries around the pitch. We need to get away from the Exeter game but, it doesn't mean we don't and won't address it in the week. Hopefully the Irish are the ones who pay for it next week."
