Putting his Rio Games disappointment behind him, India's Jitu Rai won silver in the 50m pistol event at the ISSF World Cup Final in Bologna, Italy on Thursday. Shooting a total of 188.8, Jitu, who entered the event with already two World Cup medals this season, finished in second place behind China's Wei Pang, who scored 190.6. Italy's Giuseppe Giordano took bronze with a score of 170.3 in the final.
Congratulations to Jitu Rai. He needs to plan his next four year cycle meticulously .

Getting off to an impressive start in the final, Jitu shot a 10.6 and 10.3 before posting 9.2 in the third shot. While Wei kept up his bid for a medal as the contest intensified, Jitu was close on his heels and shot a 18.4 in the final set, as opposed to Wei's 16.5. Wei's superior scores in the earlier sets, however, held him in good stead.
At the Olympics, Jitu missed out on a spot in the final of the 50m pistol event by two points.
