India's Mairaj Ahmad Khan narrowly missed out on a medal at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup Final in Rome on Thursday as he finished fourth after a shoot-off against Egypt's Azmy Mehelba in the skeet event.
Khan had qualified for the final after shooting a score of 118 in the qualification round. He had finished in tied sixth place with two other shooters but advanced to the final after a superior score in the shoot-off.
Khan shot 14 out of 16 targets in the third place shoot-off whereas Mehelba missed only one target and finished with 15 points. Khan had last participated in the Rio Olympics where he had finished ninth and narrowly missed out on a spot in the final.
He won a silver medal at the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro earlier this year. He holds the distinction of being the only Indian to compete at the Olympics in the skeet event.
