SDCCU Stadium ahead of Mexico vs. Chile. Around 50,000 fans expected for Gerardo "Tata" Martino's first game in charge of El Tri. Mexico has won only twice and lost seven since that famous win over Germany at the World Cup, but the likes of Javier Hernandez and Andres Guardado are back in the squad and El Tri goes into the game as favorite against a Chile side without Alexis Sanchez and Claudio Bravo.

ESPN's projected Mexico XI to face Chile in Gerardo Martino's first game in charge sees Raul Jimenez starting ahead of Javier Hernandez, a national team debut for Monterrey's Carlos Rodriguez and Edson Alvarez in the holding midfield role in a 4-3-3 formation.

Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal only arrived in San Diego today (Thursday) ahead of Chile's game against Mexico on Friday, but he could still feature. Vidal had problems with his U.S. visa due to him renewing his passport, but Chile coach Reinaldo Rueda said the midfielder knows his responsibilities towards the national team and even sent videos of himself training for Friday's game while he was waiting for the visa situation to be resolved.

Ahead of Mexico's first game under Gerardo "Tata" Martino on Friday vs. Chile, there has been controversy after Jesus "Tecatito" Corona did not show up for camp.

Chivas 0-1 America at half-time in Estadio Akron. This is not going well for the home side. Nico Castillo gave America the lead in the 3rd minute and Chivas went down to 10 players in the 37th, when Jesus Molina was shown red for a late challenge on Guido Rodriguez. Striker Alan Pulido also left the field just before the break with an injury. Difficult to see a way back for Guadalajara. It's going to take a special second half.

Atmosphere building outside Estadio Akron for the biggest Liga MX game of the season: Chivas vs. America. Chivas coach Jose Cardozo coming into this game under pressure after a run of results that has seen Chivas slide out of the playoff positions. America just about favorite, but expect Chivas to come out flying.

The Mexican national team's opponent for June 9 in AT&T Stadium will be Ecuador, the federation confirmed on Wednesday. The game in Texas will be El Tri's final tune-up before the Gold Cup. Coach Gerardo Martino's team will be in Atlanta to play Venezuela four days before on June 5.

Brazilian striker Coutinho, a 1962 World Cup winner who Pele considered his favorite attacking partner at Santos FC, has died. He was 75.

Guillermo Hoyos has been sacked as Atlas head coach after the club lost 2-0 to Cruz Azul Friday night in Estadio Jalisco. Atlas the seventh Liga MX club to change coach this Clausura, which only started in January. The record number of firings in one season in Mexico is nine (2017 Apertura).
