PWL: Mumbai Maharathi defeat UP Dangal

Mumbai Maharathi came on top against UP Dangal 5-2 on Day 6 of the Pro Wrestling League Season 2 at the K D Jadhav Indoor Stadium in Delhi on Saturday.

UP won the toss and blocked the men's 97 kg category, whereas Mumbai decided to block the women's 53 kg category -- making Babita Kumari sit out for the tie.

In the men's 70 kg category, UP's Amit Dhankar dominated a large part of the bout, but Mumbai's Pritam came from behind to score three points in the last few seconds to register a victory of 3-3, by virtue of Last Point Win.

2016 Olympic medallists Maria Mamashuk from UP faced Mumbai captain Erica Wiebe in the women's 75 kg category where Erica overpowered Maria 4-0 -- taking Mumbai to a 2-0 lead in the tie.

In the women's 48 kg category, Mumbai's Carolina Castillo Hidalgo beat UP captain Elitsa Yankova 4-1. Yankova had a tough time on the mat as Carolina kept attacking her, eventually managing a clear takedown to score the decisive points.

In the men's 65 kg category, UP's Andrey Kviatkovski registered a last point 4-4 win over Vikas Kumar -- giving the team it's first victory of the day.

Mumbai then responded strongly as Sarita overcame UP's Manisha 9-1 in the 58 kg category. Manisha, who replaced Geeta Phogat in the tie, went down to Sarita as the latter executed powerful tackles to score points rapidly.

In the men's 74 kg category, Rio bronze medallist Jabrayil Hasanov recorded a 3-1 win over UP's Tariel Gaphrindashvili, extending Mumbai's lead by 5-1.

In the men's 57 kg category -- the final bout of the tie -- UP's Amit Kumar Dahiya prevailed over Rahul Aware of Mumbai to win 3-2.

Mumbai Maharathi, however, emerged victorious as they won the tie with an overall score of 5-2.
