Thailand Open: Satwiksairaj-Chirag enter semis; Sindhu, Sameer out in contrasting fashion

Day 4 started well for the Indian contingent at the Thailand Open, with the world no. 36 pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa beating Olympic silver medalists and fifth seeds Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying to advance to the semifinals, where they face top seeds and world no.3 pair, Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai.

Sameer Verma then suffered a 13-21, 21-19, 20-22 loss to world no. 3 Anders Antonsen in an extremely close match. Reigning world champion PV Sindhu then suffered a dispiriting 13-21, 9-21 loss to former world no. 1 Ratchanok Intanon in an extremely one-sided match.

2019 champions Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty moved one step closer to repeating their feat after defeating Malaysia's Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi 21-18, 24-22 in their quarterfinal match.
