Tanner "Damonte" Damonte will take over the starting mid lane position for Golden Guardians in the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series summer split.
He will start over previous Golden Guardians mid laner Greyson "Goldenglue" Gilmer. This spring, Damonte started for a Dignitas Academy team that finished second in the spring split with a 12-6 record but lost 1-3 to Evil Geniuses Academy in the playoffs.
Although Damonte had started in the LCS in past years for Echo Fox, he really made a name for himself in 2019 while on Clutch Gaming, before Clutch became Team Dignitas in 2020. He attended last year's League of Legends World Championship with Clutch and was cited as instrumental in their qualifying run to worlds. Damonte and Clutch support Philippe "Vulcan" Laflamme were lauded as examples of up-and-coming North American domestic talent. When Damonte did not find a starting spot on an LCS roster this past spring, many fans and analysts were disappointed.

Golden Guardians announced the roster move on Friday afternoon via Twitter. The team also signed support Kim "Olleh" Joo-sung as a positional coach for both its LCS and Academy squads.
Golden Guardians finished sixth in the spring split with an 8-10 record, making it into the first round of the playoffs after many had written off the team as a last-place finisher. They lost 0-3 to eventual finalists FlyQuest.
