Mattia Destro closing on Monaco transfer from Roma

Roma forward Mattia Destro is on the verge of joining Monaco with talks between the two clubs continuing on Wednesday.

Destro, who spent the second half of last season on loan with AC Milan, does not feature in the plans of Roma coach Rudi Garcia while Milan have turned down the chance to make his transfer to them a permanent one.

He scored three goals in 15 appearances for the Rossoneri last term and is priced outside their bracket, although Monaco should not have a problem matching Roma's asking price as they close in on the sale of Geoffrey Kondogbia to Inter Milan for a reported €35 million.

Destro, 24, is valued at €15 million and is also reported to be attracting interest from Crystal Palace and West Ham United, but Monaco's interest appears to be the strongest and they are closing in on his capture.

The Italian is currently on holiday in the U.S., but he is keeping his fans up to date with the state of negotiations. He tweeted on Tuesday night that no deal has yet been struck with the Ligue 1 club.

"Many people are asking me about Monaco. Some are claiming I have already signed, but there's no truth in that. If something does happen, you'll find out here," Destro wrote.
