What to watch out for?

The official draw of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup will take place on Friday, June 24 in Zurich. India, being the host nation, are an automatic selection and is placed in Group A.

This is the second time India are hosting a FIFA tournament after the U-17 Men's World Cup in 2017.

When does the tournament begin?

The World Cup will start on October 11 and the final will take place on October 30.

Where will the matches take place?

Bhubaneswar's Kalinga Stadium, Goa's Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium are the venues for all the matches.

Navi Mumbai will host the final while the semi-finals will be played in Goa. Bhubaneswar is the venue for India's three group stage matches on October 11, 14 and 17.

Who else qualified for the World Cup?

China, Japan, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Spain, France, Morocco, Nigeria and Tanzania are the other 15 teams who made it to the showpiece event.

What are the draw pots?

The 16 teams have been divided into four pots. They will eventually be divided into four groups of four teams with India going automatically to Group A.

Along with India, Pot 1 has Japan, Spain and Germany. Pot 2 includes Mexico, Canada, Brazil and New Zealand. Pot 3 has United States of America, Nigeria, France and China. Pot 4 covers Colombia, Chile, Morocco and Tanzania.

Who were the past winners?

Spain are the defending champions having beaten Mexico in the final of the 2018 edition. North Korea won the trophy twice (2008, 2016) and were runners-up in 2012. Japan, South Korea and France have won the title once.

The tournament is generally held every two years, and was started in 2008. India were originally selected to host the 2020 edition, but that tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, they were chosen again as hosts of the 2022 edition.

Why is North Korea, the best performing team in this event, not playing?

Despite qualifying, North Korea opted out of the World Cup and China were named as the replacement team.

"The AFC notes the inability of the DPR Korea Football Association's national age-group teams to compete in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup India 2022 and FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Costa Rica 2022 respectively," the Asian Football Confederation said. "China PR, who finished third in the AFC U-16 Women's Championship Thailand 2019, will join Japan and host India as the AFC's three representatives at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup India 2022 scheduled to take place from October 11 to 30."
