Galbreath Jr., Sam Houston State beat Hardin-Simmons 72-56
HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Chris Galbreath Jr. scored 17 points and Marcus Harris had a double-double to help Sam Houston State beat Hardin-Simmons 72-56 on Tuesday night.
Harris finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds and John Dewey III also scored 12 for Sam Houston State (2-0).
Bubba Furlong made back-to-back layups, and then Cameron Delaney made two more, to spark a 12-1 spurt that made it 16-4 with 12 minutes left in the first half and the Bearkats never trailed. They took a 33-22 lead into halftime and, after Marcus Ellison hit a 3-pointer to pull Hardin-Simmons within four points early in the second half, Dewey, Harris and Albert Almanza each hit a 3-pointer during a 13-0 run that made it 48-31 with 14 minutes to go and the Cowboys trailed by at least eight points the rest of the way.
Salomon Smith led Hardin-Simmons with 12 points. The Cowboys (0-1) shot just 29 percent (16 of 56) from 3-point range.
