Consolation win for Sheriff

FC Sheriff earned their first win of the Europa League group stage in Thursday's dead-rubber against Tromso.
With both sides already eliminated from Group K, just pride and third place were on the line in Tiraspol and it was the hosts who emerged with the points as first-half goals by Cadu and Ismail Isa secured a low-key 2-0 win.
Defeat for Norwegian minnows Tromso sees them finish bottom of the group with just one point from six games, while Sheriff finish two points behind Anzhi Makhachkala, who were well beaten by runaway group winners Tottenham in the night's other game.
The Moldovan hosts wasted little time asserting their authority over their visitors from the Arctic Circle, opening the scoring with just four minutes gone as Cadu headed in from close range from Henrique Luvannor's cross.
Tromso had no response after going behind and fell further adrift in the 36th minute when Benjamin Balima's cross came through to Isa and he had a simple task to tap the ball home six yards.
Tromso finally threatened in second half and were only denied a goal when Vjekoslav Tomic produced a brilliant save to keep out Adnan Causevic firm header from Thomas Drage's corner.
The hosts might have made the margin of victory more comfortable in the final minute when Isa rose to plant a header towards goal but the ball sailed just wide of the target.

Spurs bounce back to beat Tromso

            #INSERT type:video subtype:lead END#
Tottenham and Andre Villas-Boas bounced back from their weekend humiliation at Manchester City with a Europa League win over Tromso deep inside the Arctic Circle.

• Crace: Spurs claim pointless Europa win

Vlad Chiriches and Mousa Dembele both scored their first goals of the season to seal a 2-0 triumph that confirms Tottenham as winners of Group K with one match to spare.
Those were the positives from a sub-zero night at the northern tip of Norway, but there were also a few negatives for the north London club and their head coach.
Roberto Soldado again looked isolated up front, the visitors' momentum was slow and Nacer Chadli missed a sitter in the first half.
If Spurs beat Anzhi Makhachkala in a fortnight's time, they will have won all six of their Europa League group matches.
But the reality is that neither Anzhi, Sheriff nor this Tromso team would be anywhere near good enough to play in the Premier League -- and they are certainly nowhere near as good as the Manchester United team that heads to White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Villas-Boas, who rejected claims that his job was under threat on, saw the Norwegians cause his side problems and create the chances to have scored a goal.
Once tractors had cleared the afternoon snow from the pitch, Tottenham emerged to chants of "AVB's blue and white army".
But Zdenek Ondrasek almost silenced them when he bore down on goal after giving Michael Dawson the slip with just 33 seconds on the clock. Fortunately for Spurs, he dragged his shot wide.
The Czech striker was creating mischief two minutes later when he entered the box and went down under pressure from Vlad Chiriches, but referee Levgenii Aranovskyi waved play on.
The snow stopped falling after 10 minutes, but passing conditions remained difficult for the visitors, who struggled to find their rhythm.
Andros Townsend was their most dangerous player early on, setting up Gylfi Sigurdsson, who dragged his shot wide.
Etienne Capoue's deflected shot dribbled just wide, while Morten Moldskred was rooted to the spot. The Tromso goalkeeper was not tested until the 23rd minute, when he saved Townsend's skidding long-range shot.
Sigurdsson then carved open the Tromso back line with a beautiful curling pass with the outside of his right boot, but Chadli leaned back and thumped the ball over.
Ondrasek built up some speed early in the second half and darted at the Tottenham defence from the halfway line. Dawson pulled the striker down with a cynical foul, but the referee produced only a yellow card.
Sigurdsson had the ball in the net moments later, but Soldado was rightly penalised for handball in the build-up.
Tromso then had Spurs on the ropes with a couple of threatening attacks. Capoue and Soldado resorted to fouling the dangerous Thomas Bendiksen, and both entered the book as a result.
Brad Friedel saved from Bendiksen and Jaroslaw Fojut as Tromso continued to pile on the pressure -- but then Tottenham took the lead.
Sigurdsson drilled a low ball into the box from a free-kick and found Chiriches. The Romanian's shot was going in, but Adnan Causevic helped it over the line.
Jan Vertonghen, Lewis Holtby and Erik Lamela entered the game but surprisingly, the youngsters who had been brought on the trip stayed on the bench.
Dembele then made sure of the win with 15 minutes left when he placed the ball into the far corner after being slipped in by Sigurdsson.

              Anzhi leave it late

A goal by Karlen Mkrtchyan in the fourth minute of injury time steered Anzhi Makhachkala to the brink of qualification for the Europa League knockout stages as they claimed a priceless 1-0 victory at Tromso.
The game had appeared to be heading for a goalless draw when Mkrtchyan headed home for a deserved win for the Russians, who had dominated the first half before a limp display by both teams after the break.
Victory leaves Anzhi five points clear of FC Sheriff, who lost at Tottenham, with just two games remaining - while the Norwegians have just a solitary point.
Anzhi started the match with some urgency with Alexandru Epureanu, Mkrtchyan and Silva Jucilei all producing efforts without testing Tromso goalkeeper Marcus Sahlman.
Tromso were almost invisible and Anzhi's domination was almost rewarded after half an hour when Abdul Razak's left-footed shot was tipped round the post by Sahlman.
Another corner moments later ended with Epureanu firing wide and Alan Gatagov twice fired over, while the striker's weak effort was comfortably held by Sahlman as the game reached half-time goalless despite the visitors' domination.
There was little real action on the resumption with neither side really stringing together any meaningful moves.
It was not until the 62nd minute when Tromso had a real shot on goal, Runar Espejord firing wide as the game meandered along, before Steffen Nystrom also shot past the post for the hosts.
Anzhi had not been able to recreate their first-half urgency, substitute Odil Ahmedov shooting over the bar and Benoit Angbwa heading wide but time was against the Russians.
Ahmedov failed to threaten the goal with his injury-time effort and a stalemate beckoned before sub Serder Serderov's cross was helped on by Gia Grigalava before finding Mkrtchyan in the six-yard box - and he headed into the top right-hand corner of the goal.

                Burmistrov decides Anzhi win

Anzhi Makhachkala claimed their first win in this season's Europa League as they beat Tromso 1-0.
The Russian side were in need of victory after claiming just one point from their opening two games and they secured it thanks to a first-half goal from Nikita Burmistrov.
Morten Moldskred enjoyed Tromso's best chances in the second half but they never really threatened and sit bottom of Group K with one point.
Anzhi had the better of the opening stages but could not press home their territorial advantage with a Pavel Solomatin effort which was dragged wide and a couple of corners were all they had to show.
Steffen Nystrom had Tromso's first shot in the 17th minute but two minutes later the home side had the lead.
Odil Ahmedov opened up the visiting defence with a through ball and Burmistrov was on hand to latch onto the pass and finish calmly beyond Benny Lekstrom.
Solomatin was looking lively and came close to doubling the lead as he got a head to Burmistrov's cross but missed the target from 12 yards out.
Tromso were barely in the game at that point but went within inches of evening things up in the 26th minute as Thomas Bendiksen's shot from the edge of the box came back off the post.
Just three minutes later the frame of the goal came to the visitors' rescue when Benoit Angbwa caught Alan Gatagov's corner beautifully but saw his shot hit the bar.
Angbwa shot wide from 20 yards just after the break before Anzhi goalkeeper Mihail Kerzhakov was called into action for the first time making an impressive point blank stop from Moldskred.
It was Anzhi who looked the more likely to score as Ahmedov and Abdul Razak both saw shots miss the target and Adnan Causevic had to make a smart block to stop Kamil Agalarov doubling the lead.
Kerzhakov was called on to make another save from Moldskred as the clock ticked down but the Russians held on for a comfortable win.

                  Ricardinho salvages Sheriff a point

Tromso were denied a winning start under Steinar Nilsen as a late Ricardinho strike saw them held to a 1-1 home draw by 10-man FC Sheriff in Europa League Group K.
The Norwegian hosts, overseen by Nilsen following the sacking of Agnar Christensen on Tuesday, went in front in the 65th minute when Zdenek Ondrasek swept home from close range.
Sheriff suffered a further setback eight minutes later when Melli was sent off, but the Moldovan side managed to snatch a point thanks to Ricardinho's volley with three minutes of normal time remaining.
Sheriff started brightly, with Ismael Isa shooting wide on two occasions and Marcus Sahlman saving from Ricardinho.
Tromso's Morten Moldskred could only fire wide inside the box in the 19th minute and moments later, Marcel Metoua did likewise for the visitors.
The exchange of missed opportunities continued up to the interval. For Tromso, Adnan Causevic headed wide a corner by Thomas Drage, who later drilled off-target, and Moldskred shot over, while for Sheriff, Kobi Moyal's long-range effort was tipped behind by Sahlman and Cadu twice put the ball the wrong side of the post.
Henrique Luvannor brought a save out of Sahlman early in the second half and then with their first meaningful attack since the interval, Tromso took the lead as Ondrasek finished six yards out from Magnus Andersen's pass.
Melli received his marching orders for a foul on Moldskred and in the 85th minute Ondrasek saw his shot caught by Vjekoslav Tomic.
Ricardinho then made his late intervention, taking advantage when Ruben Kristiansen failed to deal with a cross.
In their last Europa League outing, Tromso lost their Group K opener 3-0 at Tottenham, while Sheriff drew 0-0 with Anzhi Makhachkala, who were beaten 2-0 by Spurs on Thursday.
