Match Commentary
90' But special praise must be reserved for David Beckham. Questioned over his personal life and performances in the summer the captain had a point to prove and that's exactly what he did. Wonderful energy, drive, crossing and passing - he was back to his inspirational best. And even scored a goal from open play. Ukraine were poor but England played well tonight and were good value for a 3-0 win |
90' Ukraine flattered to deceive early on as for 20 minutes they looked sharp but after the first goal they faded as credible opposition. England still had to go on and win the game and did in some style. Gerrard was everywhere in the first half; Wright-Phillips opened his England account with a wonderful solo goal; Owen scored a typical Owen goal and the other youngsters who came on - Johnson at right back especially - aquitted themselves very well |
90' Final whistle sounds to bring to an end a very satisfactory nights work for Sven's men. 3-0 the final score and plenty of positives to take out of this lively encounter |
