CF Montréal v Olimpia
Olimpia takes first-leg lead over Montreal Impact in CONCACAF Champions League
Honduras' CD Olimpia scored two first-half goals Tuesday and held on for a 2-1 road win over the Montreal Impact in the first leg of a CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal series.
The second leg of the two-game, total-goals match will be played March 17 at San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Jerry Bengtson opened the scoring for Olimpia in the 15th minute, taking a pass from Matias Garrido at the top of the 18-yard box and chipping the ball over Montreal goalie Clement Diop, who was off his line.
Bengtson set up Jorge Benguche for a goal in the 41st minute. Benguche beat a defender on a counterattack and scored from 14 yards out.
The Impact got back into the series thanks to a spectacular 47th-minute goal from Saphir Taider, who half-volleyed a 35-yard shot over the leap of Olimpia goalie Edrick Menjivar.
The CONCACAF Champions League continues Wednesday with the first leg of two more quarterfinal series: Mexico's Tigres at New York City FC, and Atlanta United at Mexico's Club America. The last quarterfinal series will start Thursday when Mexico's Cruz Azul plays at LAFC.
