Washington Spirit top Gotham FC 2-0 with goals from Brown and Rodman
The Washington Spirit, led by goals from Courtney Brown and Trinity Rodman, defeated NJ/NY Gotham FC 2-0 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, on Sunday.
Brown opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a right-footed shot from outside the box that found the top right corner of the net, assisted by Croix Bethune following a fast break. In first-half stoppage time, Yazmeen Ryan of Gotham was shown her second yellow card and sent off.
Rodman doubled Washington's lead early in the second half with a right-footed shot from inside the box, assisted by Casey Krueger.
In one notable moment late in regulation time, Katie Stengel had an opportunity to pull one back for Gotham via penalty kick but saw her effort saved by Aubrey Kingsbury.
