Grambling State beats Jackson State 62-59 in OT
JACKSON, Miss. -- Ervin Mitchell scored 18 points, Nigel Ribeiro scored the game-winning 3-pointer in overtime, and Grambling State beat Jackson State 62-59 on Saturday night for its first Southwest Athletic Conference road win of the season.
JSU's Janarius Middleton scored a layup for a 52-50 lead in overtime, but Grambling State pulled ahead 59-56 after Mitchell's two free throws. Edric Denis tied it at 59 with a 3-pointer, then Ribeiro -- who scored nine points -- hit his 3 with three seconds left. Denis' missed a long 3 at the buzzer.
Avery Ugba scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Remond Brown had 11 points for Grambling State (12-15, 7-7).
JSU led 21-18 at halftime after shooting 30 percent from the floor to Grambling State's 21.4 percent. Yettra Specks tied it at 50 with a running floater with 16 seconds left in regulation and JSU got a stop to force overtime.
Maurice Rivers scored 16 points, Paris Collins added 14 and Denis had 10 for JSU (11-16, 7-7), which saw its two-game win streak end.
