LeMahieu wins AL batting title; Voit (22) most HRs

The Yankees may be limping into the wild-card round, but there was a bright spot in Sunday's regular-season finale as DJ LeMahieu captured the AL batting crown with a major-league-leading .364 average, and Luke Voit (22) earned the home run title.

If the Cleveland Indians hold on to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, they will host the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the Wild Card round at Progressive Field on Tuesday.

The New York Yankees will limp into the playoffs with the fifth seed and will play the 4th seeded team in the AL Central with the Toronto Blue Jays losing to the Baltimore Orioles. The Blue Jays will play at Tampa Bay in the Wild Card round.

Jazz Chisholm with another HR today, and the Marlins have a 5-0 lead over the Yankees in the 8th inning. Nonetheless, the Yankees are getting help from the Blue Jays to secure the 5th seed, with Toronto currently losing to the O's 7-5 in the 8th inning.

DJ LeMahieu is set to become the fourth player in Yankees franchise history to lead the majors in batting average, joining none other than Mickey Mantle (.353 BA in 1956), Joe DiMaggio (.381 in 1939) and Lou Gehrig (.363 BA in 1934).

DJ LeMahieu is 2-for-2 today, and is currently batting .366, which means he will likely finish the season leading all of baseball in batting average (next: Nat's Juan Soto .346, coming into today) LeMahieu would be only the fourth player in Yankees franchise history to lead the majors in batting average.

Rookie Clarke Schmidt is out of the game after allowing 3 runs on 4 hits over 4 innings. Jonathan Holder on the mound as the Yankees try to secure the 5th seed for the Wild Card round with a win, down 3-0 in the 5th inning.

Two unfortunate injuries for the Marlins today, with both, Starling Marte (hit by pitch) and starter José Ureña (hit by a line drive) out of the game. Marlins holding on to a 3-0 lead over the Yankees in the 3rd inning. If Yankees lose and Blue Jays win vs. Baltimore today, the Yankees would be the 8th seed and play at Tampa Bay in the wild card round.
