January sparks No. 19 DePaul women past Georgetown, 79-70
CHICAGO -- Jessica January posted a triple double as the No. 19 DePaul women closed out the regular season by holding off Georgetown 79-70 on Sunday.
Playing her final home game, January scored 16 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and dished out 10 assists. The preseason Big East Conference Player of the Year injured her hand in the conference opener and returned Saturday to score 13 points and spark the Blue Demons to a 77-50 win over Villanova.
DePaul (24-6, 16-2) shares of the Big East Conference regular season championship with Creighton (22-6, 16-2), and enters the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed. The tournament will be held at Marquette University in Milwaukee. First-round games are scheduled for March 4.
Amarah Coleman scored 17 points off the Blue Demons' bench. Seniors Jacqui Grant and Brooke Schulte added 14 and 12 points, respectively, in their home court finale.
Senior Faith Woodard scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in her Georgetown regular season finale. The Hoyas (17-11, 9-9) enter the conference tournament as the No. 6 seed.
