Neal's 11th-inning homer sends Alabama past Oklahoma State
Brady Neal hit a go-ahead, three-run home run in the top of the 11th inning to lift Alabama to a 9-7 victory over Oklahoma State in the Tuscaloosa Regional final Sunday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Eric Hines, who tied the score with a solo homer in the eighth, went 3-for-5 with an RBI for the Crimson Tide. Jason Torres also hit a solo home run, and John Lemm went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Justin Lebron and Peyton Steele each added two hits for Alabama.
Kollin Ritchie led the Cowboys, going 3-for-6 with a solo home run. Brock Thompson, Avery Ortiz and Deacon Pomeroy also homered. Garrett Shull and Colin Brueggemann each contributed two hits.
Alabama built a 4-0 lead through three innings, powered by a two-run single from Lemm. Oklahoma State responded in the bottom of the third with a two-run homer from Pomeroy and another run to cut the deficit to 4-3. After Torres' homer made it 5-3 in the fifth, Ortiz answered with a solo shot in the sixth to bring the Cowboys within one.
The Cowboys took their first lead of the game 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh on back-to-back solo home runs from Thompson and Ritchie. However, Hines knotted the score with his solo blast in the top of the eighth, eventually forcing extra innings.
After two scoreless frames, Neal's home run broke the tie in the 11th. Oklahoma State scored one run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Shull but could not complete the comeback.
Alabama starter Myles Upchurch pitched six innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out nine. Oklahoma State reliever Ethan Lund was impressive in relief, pitching 4⅔ innings while allowing just one run and striking out seven.
