Georgia powers past UNC Greensboro 8-0 in tourney matchup

Georgia used a trio of home runs to secure a dominant 8-0 victory over UNC Greensboro in an Athens Regional NCAA softball tournament game Saturday at Jack Turner Stadium. The game ended after five innings due to the run rule.

The Bulldogs' (40-18) offense was led by Keirstin Roose, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Sarah Gordon also had a big day, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, while Jaydyn Goodwin's 2-for-4 performance included a home run and two RBIs.

Georgia's pitching staff was nearly perfect, combining for a one-hit shutout. Starter Randi Roelling was masterful over four innings, allowing no hits and just one walk while striking out four batters. Ada Little pitched the final inning, allowing one hit and striking out one to close out the game.

The Spartans (43-17) struggled to generate any offense against the Bulldogs' pitching. The team's lone hit came from Rylie Williams, who finished 1-for-2. Starting pitcher Brooklyn Shroyer took the brunt of the damage, allowing five earned runs on four hits and four walks over 3⅔ innings of work.

Georgia jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Gordon opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a two-run homer to right field. The Bulldogs extended their lead in the fourth when Roose hit a two-run shot to left, making it 4-0. A bases-loaded walk to Tyler Ellison later in the inning pushed the score to 5-0. Georgia put the game away in the fifth with an RBI double from Roose, followed by a two-run home run from Goodwin, triggering the run rule.
