A stunning goal from Simone Verdi helped Bologna secure a 2-0 victory over Sampdoria at the Renato dall'Ara.

Samp resisted Bologna's numerous attempts to break the deadlock until, just before half-time, former AC Milan striker Verdi drove home Ladislav Krejci's cross with a searing volley.

The Rossoblu kept pushing when play resumed and Mattia Destro doubled their lead with a conversion of Krejci's pass in the 50th minute.

Edgar Barreto saw red for the visitors after fouling Adam Nagy in the 70th minute and Bologna's Federico Di Francesco followed him down the tunnel for impeding Karol Linetty at the death.
