Honda says discussions with Red Bull about a supply of engines for 2016 are ongoing, despite works partner McLaren making clear it is not happy about a tie up.

Honda returned to Formula One this year with an exclusive supply deal with McLaren but has recently been approached by Red Bull, which is currently without a firm engine contract for next season. McLaren has made clear it is against the idea, but Honda motorsport boss Yasuhisa Arai says the deal is still on the table.

"Obviously we cannot discuss details at this moment," he said. "We have been approached by the team but discussions are ongoing and nothing has been decided. I always say this season: we are always open, so we are on discussions that are ongoing - that's it."

Renault is the only other option available to Red Bull after Ferrari and Mercedes both ruled themselves out of a deal, but the French manufacturer has yet to make its plans clear for the rest of the season.
