Mark Smith has left his role as Sauber's technical director just eight months after joining, the team has confirmed.
Smith joined Sauber last July, becoming its first technical director since James Key's departure for Toro Rosso in 2012. On Monday, just days before the start of the season opener in Australia, it was confirmed Smith had left the team due to family reasons.
A brief statement read: "He has already left the company. We would like to thank Mark for his efforts and we wish him all the best for his future."
Smith had formerly worked for Red Bull and Caterham, where he had been when the the team folded in late 2014. Sauber did not provide information about a replacement.
