There is only one aim on Jozef Kaplan's mind when his Geylang International FC side take on Hougang United in the Great Eastern Yeo's S.League this Thursday.
With the Eagles yet to win in their opening two games, their captain has targeted maximum points when they return to the Bedok Stadium again.
Having held Home United to a credible 1-1 draw in their first match of the season at home, Jorg Steinebrunner's men then stumbled to a narrow 2-1 loss against Balestier Khalsa last Friday.
Kaplan is happy enough with their displays so far but knows that his side, who had been touted as a potential surprise package before the start of the campaign, have to start chalking up the wins.
"I think we did well in both games as we showed good fighting spirit and team spirit, and we were close to winning, but at the end of the day we have only one point [so far], although this is also part of football," he told ESPN FC. "Our game on Thursday will not be easy too, but we have our goals this season so we have to start winning games."
The Cheetahs, who have drawn both of their games so far against the Courts Young Lions and Home with identical 1-1 score-lines, hold a good recent record against the Eagles. They have won four of their last five encounters in all competitions, racking up 15 goals in that run.
With new signings like former Real Madrid 'B' striker Francisco Salvador Ela and playmaker Shunsuke Nakatake, Salim Moin's charges continue to pack a punch in front of goal.
Kaplan is aware of their threat and called on his teammates to give "more than 100 per cent" effort, but has also backed them to do well.
"My personal feeling about the team is good," he said. "We have [a mix of] good, experienced, hardworking and young talented players so of course this Thursday, we want to pick up our first win and three points."
The 28-year-old Slovakian attacker does have a knack for scoring against Hougang, having bagged four goals in six games during his first spell at Geylang from 2012 to 2013.
Kaplan has also scored both of Geylang's goals this season and will be their main threat on Thursday, although he stressed that the team always comes first.
"For every football player, it is nice when they score goals so I am happy too [with my goals], but the most important [thing] for me is when my team wins," he asserted.
