With Saturday's game against Villarreal still goalless as the clock ticked over into injury time, Levante pair Victor Casadesus and Ruben Garcia decided that something drastic had to be done if Los Granotes were to steal the victory. Therefore, they chose that point to unveil the product of countless hours of training ground experimentation -- the truly absurd and utterly pointless "double free-kick."
Predictably, as Casadesus and Garcia attempted to both connect with the set-piece at the same time from different angles in a bid to baffle Villarreal's goalkeeper, the awkward contact did nothing but skew the ball harmlessly out of play for a goal-kick.
Villarreal then went on to score in the 95th minute to win the game 1-0.
Of course, this isn't the first time we've seen the twin free-kick attempted, with Ryan Giggs and David Beckham making an altogether better fist of it against West Ham back in 2001 ...
Who knows? It may catch on yet.
