India's Yogeshwar Dutt was beaten 3-0 by two-time world championship bronze medallist Ganzorigiin Mandakhnaran of Mongolia in the men's freestyle 65 kg category round of 32 in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. Yogeshwar's Olympics campaign ended without him getting the chance to fight for bronze by repechage since Ganzorigiin failed to make the final of the event.
Yogeshwar -- who had won the bronze at the 2012 London Olympics in the 60kg category and is the reigning Asian and Commonwealth Games gold-medallist in 65kg -- began on a cautious note in the first period of three minutes. Ganzorigiin attempted to go on the attack, but the Indian wrestler kept him at bay with a strong arm-hold.
Yogeshwar was penalised for passivity at the one minute, 28 seconds mark. The rest of the period was seen off by the Mongolian.
Yogeshwar tried to start the second period in an aggressive manner. But when he tried to go for a leg lock, Ganzorigiin got the chance to turn defence into attack and lodge his first two-pointer.
Yogeshwar kept attacking through the rest of the second period -- especially coming close to pushing his opponent out of bounds with 40 seconds to go -- but Ganzorigiin kept his defence intact till the end of the bout.
After the bout against Yogeshwar, Ganzorigiin beat China's Katai Yeerlanbieke 3-0 in the round of 16. But in the next bout, the Mongolian wrestler lost to Soslan Ramonov of Russia --- thus depriving Yogeshwar of a chance to go into repechage.
