It's midnight and we bid you goodbye as the Delhi Capitals players head back after a lap of the ground, as it was there last home ground. They're holding banners and distributing some jerseys for their fans. Lots of movement still happening on the points table. What a Sunday that was - RCB make the playoffs and are likely to finish in the top two. DC keep breathing with this victory which means seven teams will fight it out for the remaining three spots in the eight games to go. Tomorrow is CSK vs SRH, do join us for that too. It's adios from me, Vishal Dikshit, and my amigo Ekanth. Ciao!

Time for the presentation...

Axar Patel: It's obviously special to win at home, especially after losing. Fans come to support us so this means a lot. One thing has improved that we used to lose wickets in cluster easily, but today we got a good opening stand which helped the other batters. Today we wrestle able to finish the game because of that. In a lot of matches we made comebacks to bowl well after the powerplay. In the time out, our chat is we can make a come back any time. Today as well, we did that in the middle overs. Our "youngster" did that for us today (laughs). We kept chatting about what fields to set for new batters, how to make it tougher for them.

That youngster, Mitch Starc is the Player of the Match: We've had different wickets throughout in Delhi. We didn't bowl too badly in the powerplay but they batted well, but we brought things back later and KL batted fantastically, and to finish at home with a win is always nice. Adjusting as quickly as you can is key because boundaries aren't too big here. Bowl some variations, Lungi bowled really well, we adjusted very well after the powerplay. You can't rally dwell at things in T20, matches come quickly. As bowlers you've to put the ego aside. There's plenty of talent (in DC), a lot of local guys who've been around for a number of years. It's only a positive seeing those young guys, I'm sure it'll continue that way this season as well.

Riyan Parag: We were in a pretty good space after 14 overs. Once I got out we didn't capitalise and should have got around 210. Our bowling, we weren't upto the mark. Bowling Ferreira wasn't a gamble, I know on TV looks like a gamble. If you want to win a trophy, you have to contend in every game. We're a way better team than we showed in the last 4-5 games. Coming from a break, skillwise, energywise, executionwise we weren't there and if we play like this, we shouldn't be in the top four. We had the opportunity, we didn't take it. If we don't qualify, it's our fault, nobody else's.

KL Rahul: This one feels a bit more special (scoring 500 runs again in a season). I've been scoring 500 runs but I've been working to up my strike rate to keep up with the modern T20 demands. If we had a few more wins that would have been better, but we have an outside chance. Hopefully some other teams will help us out. It's been a journey (to up my strike rate) and I don't thonk I've still cracked it. Sport is about trial and error, being open to experimentation and doing uncomfortable things. This time there was a very clear message from the coach and captain that they wanted me to play at a particular strike rate and dominate the powerplay. The last few games have been a bit tricky, and they expected someone from the top three to bat deep so I tried to do that today. Porel batted beautifully today. The chances Porel has gotten, he has shown what he can do, hitting proper shots and use the powerplay. The feedback to him was he wanted to up that strike rate but he didn't get too many chances early in the season. He's been open to experimenting, he's been talking to me, the coaches and he got a chance like this today which will give him confidence that when you strike at 170-200 strike rate, you can get a bit more relaxed.

11.32pm So DC hold their nerve in this see-saw contest and they move from eighth to seventh to stay alive for the playoffs race. RR, meanwhile, slip from fifth to sixth when they had a chance of entering the top four. CSK, watching from the sidelines, go fifth. DC's finisher Ashutosh might have done it in the end but the match was turned by Mitchell Starc in the 15th over when RR were heading for a 220 kind of total from 161 for 2. But Starc's triple-wicket over pulled the rug from under RR's feet and restricted them to a below-part total. KL Rahul and Porel gave DC a century opening stand even before the halfway mark, which meant that despite the wobble in the middle, they had just enough to get over the line.

Milne to Sharma, SIX, Ashutosh finishes it off with a mighty six and Delhi Capitals stay alive in the playoffs race! He anticipates the short ball after the full one and muscles it away to then hold his arms high

Three to win now

19.1
4
Milne to Sharma, FOUR, and all Ashutosh has to do watching that field is stand tall, see the ball land near middle and leg and smack it straight down to the long off fence

A penalty as well for RR, what a night for them if they go down. Four fielders allowed at the rope instead of five - deep third, fine leg, square leg and long on. Massive gap on the off side in the deep

END OF OVER:
19 | 12 Runs 1 Wkt | DC: 187/5 (7 runs required from 6 balls, RR: 9.84, RRR: 7.00)

  • Ashutosh Sharma8 (3b)
  • Axar Patel34 (18b)
  • Brijesh Sharma4-0-44-2
  • Donovan Ferreira1-0-16-0
18.6
1
Brijesh Sharma to Sharma, 1 run, a run out chance and RR miss another one! Bishnoi at midwicket had only one stump to look at after collection the ball once Ashutosh pulled into the ground, and he had a shy at the stumps at the non-striker's immediately but missed. So Ashutosh gets one and keeps strike too
18.5
6
Brijesh Sharma to Sharma, SIX, Ashutosh shows everyone why he's been brought in so late! Hangs back in the crease and opens up, and heaves that away without caring about the length of that one, even if it was short of length
18.4
1
Brijesh Sharma to Patel, 1 run, some width, Axar frees his arms towards the covers and wants two, but has two settle for one
18.4
2w
Brijesh Sharma to Sharma, 2 wides, wide down the leg side, again Jurel can't collect cleanly and they get two
18.3
1
Brijesh Sharma to Patel, 1 run, 138.7kmh, pace and full to Axar, he doesn't quite middle the big shot back, single to long on

Shariar : "SUCH A FACEPALM MOMENT"

18.2
1
Brijesh Sharma to Sharma, 1 run, goes for the wide yorker with pace off completely, Ashutosh digs it out square for one

Ashutosh comes in as the Impact Sub

W
Brijesh Sharma to Miller, OUT, Miller finds deep midwicket! Put that glass down, there's another plot twist. Brijesh starts with a slower ball on the stumps, Miller wants to muscle it away but all he can do is find Shanaka in the deep for a straightforward catch

DA Miller c Shanaka b Brijesh Sharma 9 (9m 6b 0x4 1x6) SR: 150

Nineteen to get from 12, Brijesh runs in from around the wicket

END OF OVER:
18 | 16 Runs | DC: 175/4 (19 runs required from 12 balls, RR: 9.72, RRR: 9.50)

  • Axar Patel32 (16b)
  • David Miller9 (5b)
  • Donovan Ferreira1-0-16-0
  • Jofra Archer4-0-35-2

16 from that over pretty much does it (on a usual day)

17.6
6
Ferreira to Patel, SIX, Axar connects this time and that's right off the meat of the bat! What a connection. He doesn't have to make room for this one, just stands tall and swings for the hills on the leg side by getting under it nicely. Parag can't believe it and nearly throws his cap
17.5
1
Ferreira to Miller, 1 run, a mighty swing from Miller for the leg side, but no real connection apart from the toe-end for one
17.4
1
Ferreira to Patel, 1 run, Axar also swings big, only one to leg again
17.3
1
Ferreira to Miller, 1 run, slightly full again, he makes room again, but Ferreira chases him and it's only a single down to long on
17.2
6
Ferreira to Miller, SIX, Miller mows it over long on! He makes room, gets one in the slot and sends that flying over the fielder at the rope
17.1
1
Ferreira to Patel, 1 run, almost yorks him on middle, Axar steers it late towards short third for one

It's almost two runs a ball now and RR's best bowler is done. Milne, Brijesh and Shanaka have one each. But here's Donovan Ferreira with his offbreaks! Around the wicket

END OF OVER:
17 | 8 Runs 1 Wkt | DC: 159/4 (35 runs required from 18 balls, RR: 9.35, RRR: 11.66)

Archer's last ball of the night

16.5
1
Archer to Patel, 1 run, full and straight, a quick single down to mid off
16.4
4
Archer to Patel, FOUR, Axar goes for the big shot and he gets four! Some respite for DC. Jaiswal almost caught in two minds there, whether to go for the catch or save the boundary. He comes running in first after Axar slashes that over point, but the ball lands well in front and turns away from him
16.3
1
Archer to Miller, 1 run, fiery first ball! That hurries towards his abdomen at 148.1kmh, Miller is beaten by pace and just abut manages some bat for one

Miller had been itching to come out. And here he is. Archer has four balls left for the night

16.2
W
Archer to Stubbs, OUT, Archer strikes, Jaiswal runs a mile to take a catch and DC lose one more! Stubbs goes across for the slower ball and scoops it into the stratosphere, Jaiswal comes sprinting in from the rope and swallows that without even having to dive

T Stubbs c Jaiswal b Archer 4 (13m 6b 0x4 0x6) SR: 66.66

Vikram : "that was very casual from Parag, no wonder Sanga was annoyed."

16.1
1
Archer to Patel, 1 run, short and just outside off, soft and delicate dab to deep third for one
16.1
1w
Archer to Patel, 1 wide, an appeal for caught down leg as it's not far from Axar's bat and thigh pad, but called a wide. RR want to review that. No spike there so RR lose a review

43 from four overs. One of those will be bowled by Archer. And that's now - big call by Parag. Around the wicket to Axar

END OF OVER:
16 | 9 Runs | DC: 151/3 (43 runs required from 24 balls, RR: 9.43, RRR: 10.75)

  • Axar Patel18 (10b)

  • Dasun Shanaka3-0-29-1

Nine from that over, not too far from the asking rate
