Really long game but a consequential one. Great post-game interviews too. Do follow the final league game of the season. Thanks so much for joining here. See you.
Jofra Archer, POTM I don't think this is my best season. Every time I take the ball, I have to hit good areas. Not always rewarded, happy it came on an important day. If you get hit for a boundary off a good ball, it's okay. Coach's instructions: They said no more pace off after the first couple of games. There's more margin for error with pace on. You have to deal with edges from time to time, but it's safer more often. I wasn't expecting to bat so early due to the impact sub. Main coach told me to put pads on, I was surprised at first. I class myself as an allrounder but folks call me a bowler. Body good, touchwood.
Riyan Parag, RR captain Feels good when things go to plan. We've won but a lot of things we need to do better. I wanted the set batter to play longer, we needed runs. We can't have two batters go at a run a ball. That's why we sent Jadeja, we wanted a quick 20 from him, which he provided. I've taken a lot of brave calls this season, that's how I like to lead. I thought only Archer could get Hardik, and that's what he did. I always go with instincts over numbers in real-time decisions. I don't praise Punja and Brijesh too much but the way Brijesh has been bowling and Punja - his journey from a net bowler to now - has been exceptional. I was definitely not fit, wasn't supposed to play today or the next game. Will definitely play next game. Jofra's strong as a rock. Jaddu's strong, he's a warrior. We should've qualified way earlier. We're picking slack.
Azweer : "Chris Gayle's record isn't safe yet."
Seshavataram: "All playoff teams have won only one ipl trophy"
Rohit: "The washed out match turning very crucial. Had there been a result, either KKR or PBKS would have also ended up with 16 points."
Kumar Sangakkara, RR head coach (Chat in the last timeout) It was about sticking to plans and holding nerves. It was all about pressure and all bowlers did a brilliant job and we were tidy in the field. It's always guesswork, great when it works. We wanted Jofra to take a risk. Ferreira got out, Jadeja had a bung elbow. We got 206 which was good. Jofra's been invested in the team, he's spearheaded us throughout. His batting effort was exceptional. Punja has been an interesting choice, Bishi has to sit out because of him. He turns his leggies and googly and he's calm. He was outstanding against seasoned batters. Want him to trust his skills. We don't pick age, we pick ability. All guys, young and old, have done well to drag us to qualifications.
Hardik Pandya, MI captain We gave away 10-15 too many. It was chaseable, we lost too many early wickets. Wicket played similar both innings, you had to hold your shape and hit good cricketing shots to get value. Last five overs/death is always difficult. If you can stop one/two boundaries, you can keep teams 12-15 runs short. Conceding 73 in the last five cost us too. Body's fine. I bat, bowl, field and slip. It's fair to have a game where I just batted and enjoyed myself.
Unfortunately, this result also means KKR vs DC is now meaningless
7:47pm Relief, relief, relief for RR after a 4-hour--17-minute game. Sooryavanshi smiles, gets a hug from Jaiswal. Throw a rock sign at the camera. Parag points up and then exults with a smile. Archer's game this, it started with bat. Him going into overdrive gave them premium runs. He took early wickets and then returned to effectively seal the game with Hardik's wicket. Brijesh and Punja were good. They got in a run out too. Horror start for MI. SKY and Hardik did well but it was too much in the end.
