This is a mauling. 134 was supposed to be competitive, but it proved way more than adequate in this case as Rajasthan surrendered meekly. Kumble was the star, but the damage had been done much earlier with Praveen Kumar providing the early breakthroughs, and Ryder chipping in with a couple. Both the finalists from last year have been beaten today, and the change in conditions has set up a slightly different IPL this time around, with the contest between bat and ball being much more closely fought than it was in it's last edition.

This is now the second-lowest score in Twenty20 cricket, and the lowest in the IPL. The score, at the moment, is yet to be updated on the page, but you'll get a list of some of the other abject batting performances. Anil Kumble joins a fairly long list of bowlers who've taken five-fors in Twenty20 cricket.

There's still time left for the presentation, but wouldn't Rahul Dravid be a fair pick for Man of the Match? Kumble did take five wickets, but Bangalore well in front by the time he came on.

Presentation time. Ravi Shastri, as often during the IPL, is a little louder than he normally is.

Shane Warne: "It was pretty disappointing. As champions, we wanted to impose ourselves but Bangalore bowled very well. It was pretty embarassing for us really. We should still have won despite the conditions, batting under lights. We need to have a serious look at the top three or four and some shot selection. We'll work on it and I promise we'll come back better."

Kevin Pietersen: "The boys played fantastic cricket. Rahul was outstanding and Ryder was fantastic. We just wanted to hit it hard, take wickets and see where we would end up. Praveen's a fantastic bowler, very clever. You can't buy Kumble's experience, he's a legend. We'll try to do as best as we can, but there are some areas we can improve in, especially in the batting department."

Dravid is the Man of the Match.

Dravid: "I'm happy with the way I'm hitting it and it was good to get the team out of the hole. This was always going to be a good score in the conditions, you've got to play proper cricket, as it's not going to be easy hitting every ball. It all worked out well, and it was a good start to the tournament. The bowlers responded well and it was just brilliant."

That's all from us folks. It's been an interesting day, and the tournament, on first glance, appears to have been very well received with a capacity crowd at Newlands. We hope you've enjoyed our coverage, and we thank you for sending us all your feedback. Delhi Daredevils take on Kings XI Punjab tomorrow, and the Deccan Chargers face off against Kolkata Knight Riders. Join us then. Until tomorrow, it's Siddhartha Talya signing off from the commentary, and Raghav from the scoring desk. See ya!

Kumble to Jadeja, OUT, That should seal it for Bangalore, gave it air this time unlike the previous one where he bowled it flat and short, Jadeja got down on one knee and tried to slog-sweep it over deep midwicket, got a lot of elevation and though it was struck well, didn't get the distance he desired, Kohli ran well to his right to take a neat catch well inside the ropes

  • We oldies can have our days too - Kumble

Anil Kumble, the Bangalore Royal Challengers legspinner, feels that this year's team is "different" from the outfit that finished second last in 2008 and that the "intense" and "spot on" preparations in South Africa have helped immensely

  • Warne wizardry lights up veterans' day

Shane Warne's night was ruined by a shoddy batting performance from his team. But what a pleasure he was to watch. We must be grateful that he is still in our lives, however briefly

  • Pietersen makes the perfect start

Twenty20 captaincy feels like a lottery at times but pretty much everything Kevin Pietersen did came off. He may as well just ride the wave
