7.17pm The match is officially called off, about 15 minutes before the cut-off time. Both teams get a point each which means Rajasthan Royals go back on top of the table. So that's all we have from the first match of the day, you can switch to Feroz Shah Kotla now, for Delhi Daredevils v RCB. Enjoy that one, no rain there. Ciao!

6.55pm The umpires and curator Prabir Mukherjee are having a long chat now. Groundsmen are standing around them as the covers are off. Super sopper still circling near the boundary and an update should be coming soon. Umpires are now having a word with the coaching staff and captains of the two teams. Let's hope something conclusive comes out of this. The two camps shake hands and walk off the field. Waiting for the final confirmation, it was announced at the ground that there may not be much chance of the match starting as there are still wet patches...

6.45pm The umpires have walked out again, super sopper still circling the outfield right near the boundary rope which has a lot of water. The umpires are having a word with Upton, Akram, Gambhir, Baylis, Dravid, Kallis and Watson.

FSP: "Sir, who is Upton?" Paddy Upton, Rajasthan Royals coach. No?

Deep: "If it ends up being a 5-over match I think it will be RR who will be happier of the 2 teams as they have better hitters suited for such situations."

6.28pm The next inspection is now at 6.45pm, the final cover is being removed now. There's one small wet area at the extra cover/deep backward square leg boundary, so more sopping required, says KK.

5.50pm With a lot of covers still on, the next inspection is around 6.30pm. It will take around 40 minutes to take the covers off, assuming there is no more rain. The cut-off time for a five-over match is 7.30pm...

Adit: "The good thing is that the toss hasn't happened yet. In case it turns out to be a 5 over game, atleast the teams can pick a side for a 5 over game, instead of 20."

5.35pm The umpires are out on the ground, half of it is still covered/uncovered. The covers at straightish long-on/fine third man are being taken off and the ground in that area still looks quite wet. There are still deep puddles on the covers at the deep-cover/long-leg area. So still a lot of work to be done, says Karthik Krishnaswamy.

Jai: "has the rain stopped completely or not?" For now, it has

5.15pm The next inspection is at 5.35pm, if rain doesn't show up again. The centre covers and some square of the wicket have been taken off and we have started losing overs now. The sky is still menacing according to our man Karthik at the ground...

Rahul Ranjan: "Will Narine feature today or has gone for the bowling action test?" He is not available today

5pm Some of the covers are being removed now at Eden Gardens as rain as stopped. Still a long way to go to squeeze in some overs, but this is some hope for IPL lovers.

4.37pm Here's an update - we've got until 5.15pm local time until we start losing overs, and 7.20pm is the cut-off time. It looks very unlikely right now that we'll have a full 20-over match because it's still raining.

4.15pm It's raining again in Kolkata. Even before the covers were taken off it's pouring down again.

Sairam : "Where are the " I am xx Kms from the ground, and it has started/stopped raining here" comment?"

3.50pm The rain seems to have subsided in Kolkata, says our man Karthik Krishnaswamy, who is drenched. The covers are still on, though.

3.25 pm So the captains should have trooped out by now. The commentator should have made a stab at an all too loud welcome by now. The weather has not let that happen. Rain holds its own at Kolkata

Karthikeya: "Weather forecast says rain will STOP by 5:30- 6:00 pm. Hoping it's atleast a 5 over shootout."

3.10 pm There is no abatement in rain intensity. Expect delays, says Karthik from Kolkata. The whole ground is covered, water is dripping from the roofs...
