A simple chase went wildly sideways. Not the best visit to Chennai for Knight Riders. They'll want to return the favour when these two teams clash again in Kolkata in a few days time. For now, it's Alagappan Muthu wondering what just happened...

Dwayne Bravo is the Man of the Match "It was a great team effort. Disappointed with the way I got out so I wanted to do something special. Have to say well played to Faf and Ashwin's boundaries. We knew if we could pick up wickets in the middle overs, with one side being a longer boundary. They put themselves under pressure. Well done to Mahi's captaincy. Catch was relaly special, reminded me about four-five years ago. Body is still holding up and it's a great feeling to know I helped the team win. This situation is what I prepare myself for. I bowl at MS and Baz and back home against Pollard. I tell myself that I have 14 to defend off six balls in training."

"Fantastic victory," MS Dhoni says, "This was the wicket you don't know what is a good score. It's where if you bat well you can score 160 and if you bowl well you can defend 125. That's what I told the team. The game changes after the sixth over. Robin gave them a good start, but we came back with some good fielding and some good bowling. Raina has done well with the ball for us sometimes. He hits the seam and his trajectory is low and he can get wickets if batsmen makes mistakes. I wanted to save one over of Jadeja for the end, if the fast bowlers didn't bowl well. His three overs were important. We did drop two catches, but the fielding was outstanding. Russell's run out was important for us. Brendon McCullum was lightning on the field. And in the middle overs, we did put pressure on them so they couldn't rotate freely. We want to take one game at a time. What's important is to keep going well, of course there will be some games were you will lose, but what's important is to keep performing at your best. 80%."

"Containing Chennai to 134 was tremendous. Should have chased it down, especially with the start we got. But the batsmen got stuck," says Gautam Gambhir, "When you win the toss and put the opposition in, and you restrict them to 134 was fantastic. Robin and Manish were good with the bat early on, but they didn't carry on. We just got stuck. We should have rotated the strike, Letting the spinners run away with three or four runs an over was not on. One of the top four has to bat till the 15th over. Specially in these kinds of totals. We need to be smarter. We need to stop playing so many dot balls, that's where we messed up. We play them again in two days, so hopefully we can turn it around"

11.40 pm Dhoni carries off a stump. Nehra grabs one, but doesn't take it with him. Slow pitch, canny spinners, slower-ball obsessed seamers. Super Kings had all the ingredients to make this chase difficult. But Knight Riders should not have helped them. They played 11 overs without a boundary. Yusuf, Suryakumar and ten Doeschate made 67 off 72 balls. After they had been given a great start from Robin Uthappa - 39 off 17. They were 61 for 2 in the eighth over, but then just fell away. Russell was needlessly run out. ten doeschate could not buy a run until it was too late. So Super Kings go top.

Rohan Medhekar: "Ashwin definitely MoM here! two crucial wickets plus two crucial boundaries in the end!" ---- he's got stitches in his fingers now.

"Definitely. The way the boys bowled, it became a good score to defend," says Ashish Nehra, who takes the purple cap, "They way I've been running in, I'm really happy. Have been bowling well last couple of seasons but no one noticed. This time I'm happy I'm picking wickets. It was a slow wicket, lots of lots of slower balls. Bravo was brilliant"

Bravo to ten Doeschate, FOUR, goes away to the boundary, but that's fine for CSK. They've defended 134! Gets down the track and drills a wide, fuller deliver past long-off

Bravo to ten Doeschate, FOUR, threads the gap at cover! Normal pace delivery and Tendo runs at it. Nearly yorks himself, but manages to squeeze it away

Anant: "This is the best example of How to make a simple chase complicated and loose?"

Raja: "We are watching another nail biting end , the trade mark of IPL !! and once again it is CSK :P"

Bravo to ten Doeschate, SIX, length ball, off pace, Tendo has stood and slammed it over midwicket. Big six. Timely six. But he's still under pressure

Nehra to Hogg, 2 runs, length ball a shade outside off, Hoggy has slapped it past a diving extra cover and he's placed it wide of the sweeper as well. Perfect result for KKR

Last man in is Brad Hogg. Has to keep out one ball...

Nehra to ten Doeschate, 1 run, low full toss on off stump, Tendo slaps it down to long-on. "two," calls Tendo, but Umesh wasn't quick enough. The throw comes in quick, but its wayward. Dhoni misses it, the first back up misses it, but the second takes it. Which foils Tendo seeking an overthrow

20 off nine needed, around the wicket

18.3
6
Nehra to ten Doeschate, SIX, he has nailed that! The last one was hit a little high on the bat but this one was perfectly off the middle. Front foot forward, full swing of the arms and the slog soars away over midwicket

Nehra to ten Doeschate, FOUR, finds the middle off a full toss and hammers it over cow corner. Smith was the man there, racing to his left. Couldn't make it by three or four yards

Nehra to ten Doeschate, no run, flings down a yorker that follows Tendo as he looks to make room. Tries to pull out of the shot since the ball was down leg, but then he is hit on the pads

Bravo to ten Doeschate, 1 run, skips down the track, but only gets an inside edge to the length ball that skews away behind square leg

Umesh Yadav walks out.

Arvind: "RTD is playing useless cricket... He hasn't even tried for a big shot yet... Slowly mounting pressure on others..." --- it isn't that easy. He's found a bad time to struggle with the pace of this pitch

Bravo to Chawla, OUT, standing outside the crease, races down the pitch and miscues the ball straight up. Dhoni rushes up, calls for it and takes a skier. And is promptly bear-hugged by Bravo

Bravo to ten Doeschate, 1 leg bye, offcutter on middle and leg, Tendo can only nudge the ball besides the pitch. Quick single taken

Nehra to ten Doeschate, 1 run, OUT, short ball on middle, Tendo pulls to deep square leg. But Russell wants two! Oh dear, this could be bad! It is! Tendo says no from the non-strikers' end rightly perhaps, by which time Russell had been halfway down. He ran the first too slow, while Tendo was motoring. Has to turn, does his best, stretches as much as he could, but Jaddu's throw has beaten him. Another big wicket comes off a run-out for CSK
