Kimi Raikkonen: 'Work to be done' on Ferrari reliability

Kimi Raikkonen admits Ferrari must focus on reliability after suffering two retirements in two races of 2016 so far.

Raikkonen finished second in Bahrain but teammate Sebastian Vettel failed to take up his place on the grid after his engine failed on the formation lap. It followed Raikkonen's retirement at the Australian Grand Prix, caused by a turbo failure.

With a record 21 races on the calendar this year, two failures from as many races is a concern for Ferrari against a Mercedes outfit which took eight days and 6,000KM to encounter any sort of issue over winter testing this year. Despite the clear gains in performance Raikkonen thinks the team can still improve in other areas.

"We are going in the right direction, but obviously it's not ideal for the team to have only one car finishing the race," Raikkonen said. "In this sport we always push to the limits and sometimes things can go wrong, this is not what we want but it's part of racing.

"We know that the car is pretty good but we have certain things to improve and still some work to be done."

Raikkonen knows the retirements will hurt Ferrari's chances in both championship but thinks those low moments are to be expected in an F1 championship fight.

"It's not ideal but we have some work to be done and you never want to have a retirement and it's going to cost points in the drivers' plus the teams'. It's an unfortunate part of the game."
