Free-agent wide receiver Josh Gordon, who was suspended indefinitely by the NFL on Dec. 16 for violations of the league's policies on performance-enhancing substances and substances of abuse, has applied for reinstatement, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Pete Carroll said second-year safety Marquise Blair could have a nickel role in 2020: "Yes, as a matter of fact, he's a guy we're very interested in finding a role for him. We've already mapped that out. He's got some real special talents that we want to find a spot for him … to go along and compliment the safety play that he's going to play. In the nickel package, he is going to get a lot of consideration to contribute in some additional ways because he's unique and got some special stuff."

Pete Carroll wants to see certain players on the field before deciding whether he'll run as much base defense as he did in 2019. The Seahawks often stayed in base (with four defensive backs as opposed to five) in nickel situations, which is unconventional. That was largely personnel driven in this way: the Seahawks liked their third linebacker (Mychal Kendricks) more than either of their fifth defensive backs (rookie Ugo Amadi and Jamar Taylor). Of the three, only Amadi is still with the team.

Pete Carroll said Quinton Dunbar is taking part in Seahawks meetings again after taking a few days off when his alleged armed robbery case broke. He began to say "it seems like things are taking a --" then stopped himself. "He's been very open in the discussions of what took place," Carroll said. "There's a whole process going on. I don't have the details of where that is right now and wouldn't comment on that anyway, but we have been very much connected with him in what is next in all of that."
