Elephants cruise into final

The Mighty Elephants moved comfortably into the final of the Bankfin Cup with a 39-21 win over the North West Leopards at Telkom Park in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

The Elephants will now play the winner of the semi between the Blue Bulls and the Falcons on Sunday. The home team scored five tries in the match and led 39-9 before the Leopards scored two consolation tries in the final five minutes.

The Elephants held a commanding 25-9 lead at the break. They scored three first half tries to just three penalties from the visitors. Elephants No 8 Jacques Greeff scored two of the tries in the first stanza, while fellow loose forward Heinrich Stride scored the other.

Elephants fullback Andries Fourie scored his sides' fourth try early in the second period and then Stride added his second to put the match out of reach just 15 minutes into the half.
In the last ten minutes the Elephants relaxed and allowed the Leopards to add some respectability to the scoreline, although their season is now over.
