Canberra five-eighth Matt Giteau and Waratahs hooker Adam Freier are the new faces in the 27-man Wallaby squad for it's end-of-season tour.
The squad leaves on October 27 for the tour that will include Tests against Argentina, Ireland, England and Italy.
Giteau, the Australian Under 21 five-eighth who turns 20 on Sunday, was selected as the third halfback to cover for George Gregan who is scheduled to fly home during the tour for the birth of his second child. Freier, who recently signed with the Waratahs and was selected ahead of Brendan Cannon, will be Jeremy Paul's understudy.
Reds flanker David Croft, who was part of the Wallaby Tri-Nations squad, is the third uncapped player on the tour. He was selected ahead of the Waratahs' Phil Waugh, who only recently returned to Sydney club rugby after a long lay-off due to an ankle injury.
Giteau said the tour honour caps off a big year for him. "A lot has happened to me in 2002 but to be part of this tour is completely unexpected," said Giteau.
"I know George Smith is pretty happy too considering he's no longer the youngest player on tour and doesn't have to baby sit the Wallaby mascot."
Returning to the squad is Brumbies' lock David Giffin, who missed the entire international season due to injury.
Recent Wallaby players unavailable through injury were Nathan Grey (knee), Steve Kefu (shoulder) and Nathan Sharpe (shoulder), along with promising Reds second-rower Daniel Heenan (back).
Heenan's injury has reportedly saved flanker Owen from the boot but and it is rumoured his only chance of prolonging his Test career is by moving to the second-row.
Wallaby coach Eddie Jones said the selection of Giteau and Freier was an exciting step towards next year's World Cup.
"We have a two-tiered approached to selections," said Jones. "We need to pick proven players who can win Test matches but at the same time we must bring through new talent that could play a role in next year's World Cup."
The 27-man Vodafone Wallabies squad will assemble for two camps before flying out on October 25 for Buenos Aires.
