Former Wallabies flyhalf Stephen Larkham has signed a three-year deal to play for Ricoh Black Rams in Japan.
Larkham, who notched the last of his 102 Test caps at last year's Rugby World Cup, will link up with his new Tokyo-based club in April.
The 33-year-old was was relieved to confirm the move after a lucrative switch to Magners League side Edinburgh last year fell through after the club was taken over by administrators.
"I've always wanted to play rugby in Japan, and now get the chance to do so a little earlier than expected," Larkham said in a statement.
"My family is very excited by the opportunity to live in Tokyo and I am looking forward to playing for Ricoh. I'm currently enjoying the longest rest of my rugby career and I'm feeling mentally and physically refreshed."
His last appearance for the Wallabies was against Japan before a knee injury and subsequent surgery sidelined him.
Australia were later dumped out of the Rugby World Cup in the quarter-finals by England before Larkham was fit enough to return to action.
A veteran of three Rugby World Cups, Larkham was a key member of the Wallabies side that claimed the sport's biggest prize in 1999 and was on the losing side in the 2003 final.
The talented playmaker, plagued by injury for much of his career, brought the curtain down on his Super Rugby career with the ACT Brumbies in May last year.
His move is a huge coup for rugby in the Far East and is arguably the biggest-name signing in Japanese rugby history.
