Lahore Qalandars 200 for 4 (Zaman 58*, Sams 35*, Asalanka 33, Raza 29) beat Peshawar Zalmi 199 for 4 (Bracewell 83, Babar 59) by six wickets
Fakhar Zaman dropped anchor in a chase of 200. And his team won.
Welcome to PSL 2026, where the crowds are not allowed into the grounds, but the vibes are as strong as ever. This match saw Lahore Qalandars push themselves up into the top four at their home venue, defeating with three balls remaining by far the strongest side in the league stage - Peshawar Zalmi.
To achieve this glorious feat of chasing required not only Zaman's 58 not out off 47 balls, but the more dynamic contributions of Abdullah Shafique who hit 25 off 11, Sikandar Raza who crashed 29 off 11, and Daniel Sams who struck 35 not out off 15.
This victory means Qalandars have a strong chance of finishing fourth in the league stage, thereby qualifying for the Eliminator match. The only team who could prise them out now is Hyderabad Kingsmen, who not only have to win on Sunday, but do so convincingly enough to overcome Qalandars' superior Net Run Rate. (Qalandar's NRR is -0.482, while Kingsmen's is -1.037.)
To run down a target of exactly 200 on a flat Lahore deck, Qalandars needed a plan of attack, and that seemed to be for Zaman to hand the strike over to his partner, who would take on the majority of the boundary-hitting duties. Qalandars lost only four wickets, so the batters around Zaman performed creditably, with Shafique's innings keeping Qalandars in touch, Raza's burst pushing Qalandars into the ascendancy, before Sams brought the result home. Along the way, Charith Asalanka also produced 33 from 26 from No. 4, providing some heft to the innings.
Zaman, meanwhile, took his time. His take from the powerplay was 20 off 19 balls. He would find the boundary when his strike rate dipped too low. But for virtually the entirety of this innings, he was a supporting act.
Raza's innings in many ways was the most consequential. When he arrived at the crease, Qalandars needed 82 off 44 balls. By the time he departed they needed 40 off 25. He revelled in hitting in the arc between mid-on and cover. Then, on an excellent batting track, Sams was around to guide Qalandars home. He did most of the heavy lifting in his first four balls at the crease, hitting two fours and a six off Mohammad Basit to bring the requirement down to 29 from 21 balls.
By the end of that Basit over, with Sams hitting another boundary, Qalandars only needed 19 from 18 deliveries. It was a stroll home from there, with six wickets still remaining.
Although Zalmi are still favourites going into the playoffs, their attack was given a serious shake in this chase. Ali Raza and Sufiyan Muqeem - their two young bowling guns - were both expensive, Raza in particular leaking 48 runs off three overs, while Muqeem gave away 38 from his four overs.
For Qalandars, the two Pakistan quicks in their attack had done best. Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf took two wickets apiece, Shaheen returning the better figures of 2 for 36.
Zalmi did not have their usual big innings from Kusal Mendis, but instead had had a spectacular 83 off 45 balls from Michael Bracewell, in addition to another half-century for Babar Azam.
