Jason Tovey class gives Edinburgh much-needed win vs. Ospreys

Edinburgh, playing with great belief and coherence, made it five wins in a row in all competitions with a 37-10 bonus-point success over Ospreys.

After Ospreys had built up a 10-3 lead thanks to a try from Dmitri Arhip, converted by Sam Davies who added a penalty, Edinburgh clicked and thereafter dominated this PRO14 clash.

A try from Blair Kinghorn, converted by Jason Tovey, who kicked three penalties, meant the hosts went in 16-10 ahead at half-time.

The second half was all Edinburgh, with further tries from Nathan Fowles, Magnus Bradbury and Tovey -- who converted them all. Defeat for Ospreys means their win over Dragons last week is now a lone success in a run of nine matches in all competitions.

Adopting a methodical style, choosing not to kick penalties, Ospreys trapped Edinburgh in their 22 and eventually prop Arhip got over from close range with fly-half Davies converting. Tovey pulled back three points for the hosts with a penalty but the initiative stayed with Opreys.

However, unable to penetrate the home defence, Davies kicked a penalty to put his side 10-3 ahead. Then, on the half hour mark, Edinburgh's backs clicked with full-back Kinghorn sending winger Tom Brown to the line before taking a pass from man of the match Cornell Du Preez to touch down. Tovey converted.

Ospreys were rocked and had scrum-half Brendon Leonard sin-binned for a high tackle. Tovey kicked two more penalties to make it 16-10 in Edinburgh's favour.

And it got very much better for the home side straight from the resumption. Kinghorn cut through, linked with centre James Johnstone to send scrum-half Fowles under the bar - with Tovey converting. It was now all Edinburgh, playing with great tempo, and with Ospreys trapped in their half.

The latter resisted stoutly until their defence was prised open by a piece of magic from Tovey, who then converted his own try to put Edinburgh 30-10 ahead after an hour's play. A measure of how Ospreys had gone off the boil came when they made their first appearance of the half in the home side's territory. Early coherence gone, sub Kieron Fonotia dropped a pass under little pressure.

The closing stages focused on Edinburgh's search for the try bonus point, which came in the last minute from Bradbury with Tovey converting.
